You use the internet to talk with friends, exchange files and pictures, and video chat, so why not use it to help keep you fit and healthy?
RunThere.com
For runners or walkers out there, the website www.runthere.com is a great way to organize and keep tabs of your runs/walks. Once registering with the site you can use the interactive maps to discover new routes to help you vary your workouts. You can also find out how long your old routes are because once mapped, the website can calculate the total distance. You can save your routes and add special notes. Some of mine include: “Only do this run when you’re feeling particularly up to it,” and “Extremely hilly.” After a run/walk, you can input your time and the site calculates your pace. You can also store your times to keep track of your progress. It’s a great website with many organizational benefits to help you monitor your workouts. The best part is you don’t get any annoying emails.
eXerciseFriends.com
Another similar website is www.exercisefriends.com. This site is more of a social networking site that is trying to create a community for active people to connect and organize sporting activities. You create a profile about your interests and people can search for you. The site intention is to foster the creation and participation of running groups and friends to play sports with. The site has an extensive list of sports and activities allowing you to search for buddies with similar interests. The site is a bit more primitive and seems only useful if you are serious about trying to organize sporting activities and/or find friends to play sports with. The event calendar, however, is a great place to find different activities that range from belly dancing classes to different races across the nation.
PumpOne.com
Don’t have the time to spend online to organize your workouts? Go to pumpone.com and download a free workout for your MP3 player. The workout is a collection of slides that includes descriptions and pictures of each exercise. There is a men’s and women’s total body sample workout available for free download. There are others available if you are willing to pay $19.
